12 Cars that will bring you good luck this Year of the Horse

2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse and it brings strength, speed, and energy. The fire element also evokes passion, bold moves, and rapid progress into lucky signs this 2026. We being in the mobility beat, thought of cars that could bring you similar things – all without breaking the 2M threshold.

There were a lot of new cars last year, even this year despite Q1 not done yet, so it’s tough to narrow down the list. In the end, we settled for 12 since there are 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac. These are the cars that will bring you good fortune this 2026 in no particular order.

BYD Seal 5 DM-i

Let’s start off the list with the most affordable one in this list. The BYD Seal 5 DM-i is a great symbol for the Fire Horse as it broke the subcompact segment with its size, power, and hybrid capability. Add to that its very premium interior and you’ll really feel the intensity it brings to your daily drive. And like a healthy horse, this can go the distance with both variants capable of breaking the 1,200 km mark in a single tank of gas.

Hyundai Elantra

The best car is one that can adapt to your preference and the Elantra can do just that. It’s available in a variety of powertrains including electrified, and provides a good size for the price. Not to mention the pleasurable driving experience you have without shelling out around 1.5-million. Its segment may be a niche at this point but Hyundai says there’s still brilliance with the Elantra in it.

Mitsubishi Destinator

Speaking of powerful, Mitsubishi dubbed the Destinator as “Confidence booster for energetic families.” It’s powered by a turbocharged engine, has more space for all occupants and their belongings, and dons a very intimidating stance from all angles. You’ll also feel the passion of Mitsubishi in the Destinator with its Avionics and Driving Scorer which were built in-house by Mitsubishi engineers.

Radar RD-6 EM-P

Nothing is as bold as the Radar RD-6. It’s the first unibody pickup in the country, and electrified too! You have a choice between a battery EV or the more premium lineup that’s Plug-in Hybrid. It boasts of a payload capacity that’s close to the ladder-frame-based pickups, while having more power and more mileage per tank of gas. The biggest difference though is the plush ride comfort of the RD-6 compared to any pickup.

BAIC B30e Dune

If you want power on a budget with off-roading capability, the BAIC B30e Dune certainly meets your needs. Even the 2-wheel drive trim that’s under 1.5-million boasts of 550 Nm of torque – that’s on par with your top of the line SUVs and pickups that are above 2M. Go to the 4WD trim and the pull gets higher at 685 Nm. Bonkers, I know. Combine that with a frugal engine, hybrid powertrain, and a comfortable cabin, the BAIC B30e Dune is perfect for the casual off-roader that wants an eye-catcher to go with its capability.

Changan Hunter

The Changan Hunter isn’t as bold as the RD-6 in pushing the envelope, but it has its own charm. The 2-liter turbo gasoline engine together with the hybrid system can eke out 1,000 km in a single tank, and the cabin is fitted with modern amenities to make the youngsters feel at home and not driving a tito truck. The best part, in my opinion, is the tailgate that’s ready for tambay spots at gas stations or any empty field overlooking the city skyline.

Chery Tiggo rEV

Chery has always been underrated in the Philippines but that might change with the Tiggo rEV. This electrified, large Tiggo is more than ready to accommodate families with bigger kids, especially the techy ones. It’s one of the few 7-seater hybrids in the market that’s at a very attainable price point, fitted with Advanced Safety Features and power that’s ready on tap. It’s also the most fuel efficient in its class at 84.28 km/Lge, beating other hybrids, plug-in hybrids, gas, and diesel engine counterparts.

Honda Civic e:HEV

Just making the list with 10,000 pesos to spare is the Honda Civic e:HEV. This is, in my opinion, one of the most delicate cars to electrify given its heritage and identity as an exciting car. However, Honda proved me (and many others) wrong by making the e:HEV version the most powerful Civic yet and just as exciting to drive. The suspension is so good that even with four huge guys inside (as I’ve experienced) it doesn’t bottom out. The best thing about it is you can enjoy revving high with less guilt thanks to the hybrid efficiency.

Hyundai Kona

The Kona has captivated Filipinos before, and it’s set to do the same again. Hyundai reintroduced the Kona but now with an electrified powertrain for even more power than before. The design is more fierce, the cabin is modern, and the driving is even better. Those looking for a youthful steed as a daily will certainly find the Kona very enticing.

Jetour T1

If the Jetour T2 is too “tito” for you, the T1 will be the perfect compromise. It sheds its angles for a few curves, and drops the rear storage for a conventional tailgate that’s easier to gauge in tight parking spaces. Power may not be as plenty but the T1 won’t let you feel that with its responsive throttle and lively dynamics. Comfort is also top tier with its 9-layer sun protection glass, Adaptive Seat Ventilation, and Advanced Driver Assist System among others.

Toyota Ativ

Toyota hit 2 goals with one car in the Toyota Ativ. They finally brought in the newest iteration of their hit subcompact sedan, as well as introducing the most attainable hybrid in their lineup. It’s not as superlative as rival Chinese sedans, but the Ativ makes a statement with its practicality and reliability – things you’d want from your daily steed. It’s not the fastest by any means, but the Ativ is a clear indication that Toyota is taking the electrified game seriously. They’re doing it too the right way – a practical but modern cabin paired to an executive looking exterior. People will certainly be allured to this red carpet ready sedan.

Suzuki Fronx

Last is the most apt car for this list. The Suzuki Fronx was born out of a customer’s definition of beautiful – strength, power and style. That same customer pointed to an image of a running horse as an example, and the engineers at Suzuki had a light bulb moment. Out came the Fronx – a sleek crossover with distinct proportions at every angle. It’s frugal on the wallet but lively to drive, without having a learning curve for the new technologies it has. Suzuki is best known as a frugal car maker in the country, or an off-road specialist with the Jimny, but the Fronx adds another word in their description and that is dynamic.
