The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) formally opened the Pigalo Bridge that will connect the municipalities of Angadanan, San Guillermo, and other municipalities in Isabela.
According to the DPWH, the P459-million project involves the construction of a 450-meter bridge with 250-meter approaches on the side, 7.32-meter carriageway, with nine 2-to-2.50-meter-diameter bored piles and two abutments with drainage structures and embankment protection works.
The bridge also has provisions for a concrete sidewalk and installation of concrete railings for the pedestrians. The newly-constructed Pigalo Bridge will serve as a replacement for the structures that were destroyed by typhoons Pedring and Queil.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that although the bridge was completed in March, the agency continued to improve the integrity of the structure in anticipation of the heavy volume of vehicles that are expected to pass through the bridge every day.
With the construction of the bridge, travel time between Angadanan and San Guillermo will be cut to 30 minutes.
It will also serve as a transport facility for delivering agricultural products from far-flung areas to commercials hubs in region of Cagayan Valley.
