The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is considering the reopening of two U-turn slots along EDSA in a bid to ease traffic jams this Christmas season.
In an interview over ANC on Wednesday, MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said that the agency is looking into reopening the U-turn slots along North Avenue and Congressional Avenue to alleviate the traffic situation.
“If we push through with the reopening of these U-turn slots, it won’t be like this. So, we are looking for a new infrastructure to improve the flow of buses plying EDSA busway, such as elevated road or elevated flyover. So, this would be at the same time a long term solution,” Pialago said.
“So for now, if we’re talking about reopening it for the sake of Christmas season, we’re still looking into that but we’re looking more for a long-term solution which is to provide an elevated road or flyover so at least there would be a U-turn slot (and) at the same time, the travel of the city buses won’t be delayed,” she added.
So far, the MMDA has already closed six U-turn slots along EDSA. These U-turn slots are situated near Oliveros Drive, Balintawak Market, North Avenue, Quezon City Academy, Corregidor Street and Dario Bridge. The agency is set to close the Bagong Barrio U-turn slot on Dec. 7.
The closure of U-turn slots along Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare is aimed to improve the flow of traffic along the EDSA busway.
