Why the next-gen Tamaraw will redefine the lifestyle/workhorse vehicle

In a world of crossovers and other multi-tasking vehicles, few hold the massive potential of being the ultimate jack-of-all-trades vehicle like the new next-generation Tamaraw.

And Toyota is not leaving much to the imagination by rolling out as many possible configurations of its much-awaited new IMV O model (the IMV platform spawned the Fortuner, Hilux and Innova) at its public multi-mall debut to show people how many ways their new utility vehicle can be turned into.

For now the new Tamaraw basically comes as a diesel-powered dropside pickup with a manual or automatic transmission (the gasoline-powered variant will follow) with a starting price of P937,000. It may also be ordered as a utility van or as an aluminum cargo van. Those are basically the three body styles it will leave the factory gates as.

But that’s when the fun starts. Toyota has designed the Tamaraw to be anything from an ambulance to a fire truck to a food truck to a school shuttle and everything else in between. And then some.

During the vehicle’s launch at Glorietta Activity Center last weekend, Toyota showcased close to a dozen different permutations of its amazingly versatile little truck. Here are some snaps of the Tamaraw in its various guises from the launch event.
