Quezon City to set up bike lanes along Commonwealth Avenue

The Quezon City local government plans to establish a dedicated bike lane along Commonwealth Avenue. The project intends to provide a safe path for an increasing number of cyclists who have opted to bike to work because of inadequate public transportation during the community quarantine.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte already requested the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to allow the city government to go ahead with the project that will span the length of Commonwealth Avenue, a national government highway.

“Commonwealth Avenue is one of the major thoroughfares in our city so it is fitting to include it in our bike lane network,” shares Belmonte.

The QC government will start the first phase of the Bike Lane Network project by repairing existing bike lanes and installing temporary traffic separation devices. These installations will fast-track the implementation of the project by July.

New bike lane routes have been identified to improve route connectivity. Route signages and bike parking areas will also be upgraded.

This latest initiative of the city government supports the administration’s plan to establish bicycle lanes all over Metro Manila.
