As holidays end, MMDA hopes for lighter traffic

Cross your fingers for the influx of vehicles. Still, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is hoping that the traffic situation along major thoroughfares would remain light as thousands of people are expected to head back to the metropolis over the weekend.

In a report by The STAR, MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said traffic remained light along EDSA as of Thursday.

Pialago said that the agency is hoping that traffic would not worsen since people who spent the holidays in their provinces have until the weekend to head back to the metro.

“So far traffic is very light on EDSA in both directions. We are anticipating (an) influx of motorists and passengers tomorrow till Sunday,” Pialago said.

In a bid to ease traffic congestion during the holidays, the MMDA suspended the number coding scheme for all vehicles from Dec. 23 to 25 and 30 to 31, 2019 to Jan. 1, 2020, and for provincial buses from Dec. 23 to 27 and 30 to 31, 2019 and Jan. 1 to 2, 2020.

“Traffic is not expected to be heavy tomorrow since motorists have the option of returning to Metro Manila on Friday or over the weekend,” she added. – Marc Jayson Cayabyab
