An official of the Department of Public Works and Highways was criticized by the city government of Makati following a road project that inconvenienced residents of Barangay Pembo.

A viral post by Facebook user Jhae Francisco showed that residents of Amapola street were forced to walk on wet concrete after a contractor poured cement on both sides of the road.

In a report by The STAR, Lauro Reyes, chief of Makati City’s engineering and public works department, wrote to Arleen Beltran, district engineer of the DPWH’s Metro Manila Second Engineering Office, and project implementing officer Bernardo Eugenio.

In the letter, Reyes said that pouring concrete on both sides of the road inconvenienced residents and passersby. He told DPWH engineers to “avoid doing this again.

The official said that DPWH should provide temporary walkway for residents walking in and out of their homes.

The STAR reported that the P7.3-million project, whose contractor is Two Aces Construction and Supply, was supposed to improve Amapola street’s drainage system and elevate the pavement.

While the project was supposed to be done from July 8 to Nov. 4, residents told The STAR the concrete was poured only last Tuesday. – Ghio Ong
