More than 400 barangays failed road clear ops – DILG

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will issue show cause orders to more than 400 barangay captains after failing to comply with its 60-day deadline to clear the streets of obstructions.

“They were given 60 days and they did not comply,” DILG Undersecretary Martin Diño said in a press briefing.

This comes after President Duterte ordered all local government units to take back the streets from being used privately within 60 days. The deadline expired last week.

As for the rest of Metro Manila, Diño said that they are zeroing in on barangay captains who were remiss in conducting clearing operations on major roads, so-called Mabuhay lanes, as well as streets that are being utilized to avoid EDSA traffic. – With Rainier Allan Ronda/STAR
