A preventive suspension order was issued against Buenasher Transport Corp. following a vehicular accident along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) that left eight people dead and 25 others injured.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) ordered the operator to cease operation while it conducts an investigation to determine the bus firm’s possible liabilities.

“The LTFRB has directed the operator to immediately suspend operation pending investigation,” LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra III said in a Viber message.

The STAR reported that the order covers 19 units under the fleet of Buenasher Transport that regularly ply a route from Cubao to Sta. Maria in Bulacan.

The agency also directed the Passenger Accident Management and Insurance Agency to process the insurance benefits of the victims, according to the report.

A passenger bus reportedly swerved to avoid a sport utility vehicle in front of it, causing the bus to hit the center barrier before toppling on its right side along the northbound lane of NLEX on Friday.

The incident triggered traffic on both lanes of the expressway. The bus driver identified as Victorio Delos Reyes will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries.

He is currently under hospital arrest as he recuperates. – With reporting from Emmanuel Tupas and Marc Jayson Cayabyab/STAR
