Manila mayor-elect Isko Moreno vowed to abolish the towing of illegally parked vehicles around the city to curtail corruption.

In an interview with ABS-CBN on Friday, Moreno said the concept of towing is good because it teaches discipline but it is prone to abuse.

“So para magkaron ng kapanatagan ang tao, alisin ko ‘yung isang pwedeng abusuhin na enforcement, (so for the public’s peace of mind, I will remove an enforcement form that can be abused),” Moreno averred.

He, however, urged motorists to maintain the practice of self-discipline while driving by following the traffic rules and regulations.

In lieu of towing, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority implemented higher fines for erring motorists last year.

Instead of being towed, owners of illegally parked vehicles will face a fine of P500 for three traffic violations.
