Bike-friendly diversion road opens in Bulacan

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Thursday opened a bike-friendly diversion road in Bulacan.

Motorists can now cross the 9.6-kilometer Pulilan-Baliuag Diversion Road that will cut the travel time between the towns of Baliuag and Pulilan from one hour to 30 minutes.

The newly-opened alternative route seeks to decongest the Pulilan to Baliuag Section of Daang Maharlika Highway in Bulacan.

Aside from reducing the travel time, the four-lane diversion road also features bike lanes for both pedestrians and bike enthusiasts.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that aside from building roads, they also want to promote alternative mode of transport to help the environment.

“The main goal is not only to provide vehicular infrastructure but to help conserve the environment by promoting biking for transport and recreational us,” Villar said.
