Toyota confirms arrival of their “most affordable hybrid” Ativ HEV in October

I stand corrected, which is good for consumers. In a previous issue I wrote that it might take a while before Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) brings in the 4th-generation Vios Hybrid that was launched last month in Thailand. That changed this September when they posted a teaser of a headlight on their Facebook page with text highlighting the letters A, T, I, V.

Today, Toyota Motor Philippines has confirmed via another Facebook post that indeed the 4th-generation Vios is coming in electrified form. What’s more, it will use the ‘Ativ’ name, taken from its original name Yaris Ativ (that separates it from the Yaris hatchback in other markets). You won’t have to wait long either as it’s coming next month.

The Ativ HEV is powered by a 1.5-liter 2NR-VEX engine that’s also found in the local Yaris Cross HEV. It has a combined output of 111 PS and up to 141 Nm of torque, paired to an E-CVT. In Toyota Thailand’s press release, it said the Ativ HEV can go up to 29.4 km/l. Combined with its 36-liter fuel tank capacity, it can theoretically go up to 1,058 km in a single tank of gas.

TMP’s caption also gives a hint on the price of the Ativ HEV. It said ‘most affordable HEV’ so we can assume it will undercut even the base model Corolla Cross G HEV priced at PHP 1,514,000.
