The “one-time big-time” operation of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) netted more than a thousand traffic violators, the agency announced on Friday.

In a report by The STAR, a total of 1,123 violators of several traffic laws were apprehended by the agency during the crackdown.

Among the violations were failure to wear seatbelts, failure to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle, distracted driving, and overloading.

A motorist who had an expired driver’s license was also arrested after testing positive for drug use. He was then turned over to the local police.

According to LTO Chief Edgar Galvante, the operation was part of the transport agency’s continued efforts to prevent road accidents.

Galvante explained that the operation is in compliance with President Duterte’s order for the LTO and other government agencies to conduct joint operations against violators of road and traffic laws. – Romina Cabrera
